SEPTEMBER 2008
I’m sitting writing these notes with less than a month to go before the Chicago Show! As most, if not all of you know, there are many great toy soldier shows held in the States and Europe and I enjoy all (or as many) as I can attend. The Chicago Show has to be the biggest and best… they’ve got the room trading… the extra 4 or 5 days when you get to eat, sleep, drink “toy soldiers” with lots of dealers, collectors and… competitors. Plus you’ve got the Sunday event down in the ballroom and all adjacent areas. Enthusiasts, dealers and manufacturers come from all over the world to this great event and K&C and myself are proud and very happy to be associated with it.
The K&C “Advance Guard”… Gordon, Patrick and me arrive in Chicago on Tuesday 23rd September. We should be set up in our Display Room at the Hyatt Regency Schaumburg by the following day, Wednesday. Helen, our Managing Director and “Fourth Musketeer” arrives on Thursday… Let battle commence!
So, what new ammunition do we have…

1. AVAILABLE THIS SEPTEMBER…
As previewed in August’s “DISPATCHES” we have the following:

A). “SOMEWHERE IN NORMANDY…”
WS109 “Summer Schwimmwagen”
This is a brand-new version of an old, long-retired favourite… “The Schwimmwagen” amphibian. A pair of Waffen SS Panzer Grenadiers on a reconnaissance mission are side tracked when one of them gets an urgent call-of-nature.
Even in the midst of battle a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do! A little touch of reality in the world of toy soldiers and military miniatures!!!

WS121 “Sd.kfz 250/1 Leichter Schutzenpanzerwagen”
How’s that for a mouthful! A long title for a great little half track. This all-new German fighting vehicle is packed full of action… and character… Inspired by an actual German combat photo our “Panzer Lehr” half track is covered in extra equipment and supplies. Inside it are three full figures… driver… gunner… and spotter. Looks like they’ve just spotted some enemy…

WS122 “Advancing on the Enemy”
Perhaps supporting the half track are these three Waffen SS troopers edgily moving forward… They belong to the “Hohenstaufen” Division and work equally well in an “Arnhem” situation.

WS123 “Machine Gun Team Forward!”
Moving forward to take up a new gun position is this two-man Waffen SS MG42 gun set.

WS124 “Flame Thrower Set”
Much requested and… much feared… the Flame Thrower team. As the leading trooper prepares to “torch” the opposition his bodyguard covers his back.

Special Note: All of the last three sets work well in Normandy, Arnhem or Fall of Berlin displays or diorama settings.

AVAILABILITY: Early September… in time for Chicago!!!

B). “Death To The Infidel!”
From the war-torn Europe of the mid 20th.Century back to the war-torn
lands of the Middle East during the early Crusades… with our latest Crusaders & Saracens.

MK054 “Sir Walter De La Mer”
This Norman-Irish Knight charges into battle with battle-axe ready to strike.

MK055 “Robert of Abbotsinch”
A Scottish Knight who fought alongside Richard the Lionheart and was one of his standard-bearers.

MK056 “Duke Boris of Saxony”
One foot firmly planted on a treasure chest of plundered booty this Knight is living proof that religion was not the only reason to go on a Crusade!

MK057 “Sir Roger De Tolkinghorn”
A fighting foot Knight of Richard’s entourage.

MK058 “Duel to the Death”
His horse dead this dismounted Knight fights for his life against a lightly armed, but still deadly, Saracen.

MK059 “Mounted Saracen Archer”
Fast and skillful Saracen mounted archers created havoc among their more heavily armoured (and slower) Crusader opponents.

MK060 “Kneeling Saracen Archer”
This archer lets loose at the enemy.

MK061 “Loading Saracen Archer”
This Saracen reaches for another arrow to continue his deadly task.

AVAILABILITY: Mid September… still in time for Chicago!

2. COMING IN OCTOBER…
A). Back to the “Streets of Old Berlin ‘38”
As virtually everyone knows BERLIN ‘38 is one of K&C’s most popular and controversial ranges. Whether you love it or loathe it… it sells! And here are the latest additions…

LAH087 “Der Fuhrer’s New Staff Car”
When K&C redid the big Mercedes 6 wheel Staff car for “Hitler’s Paris Visit” it was always our intention to release an alternative “Parade” version… and here it is… Similar in composition to our first version, the Fuhrer stands saluting while accompanied by his personal SS driver, an SS adjutant, an SS General and two seated bodyguards… all new sculpts and, of course, a brand new, larger, more detailed Mercedes.

LAH097 “The Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler Regimental Band”
A full 21-piece marching Regimental Band of the premier SS regiment “Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler”.
Led by their Drum Major this large set is sure to be the centre-piece of any “BERLIN ‘38” collection.
When you buy this complete 21-piece set K&C also adds on the extra-special LAH098 “Schellenbaum Carrier”… ABSOLUTELY FREE!
The complete band comes in its own special box.
In addition, for those collectors wanting to build an even bigger musical display or those building up their band piece-by-piece we offer the following musician figures on an individual basis…

LAH097A “Side Drummer”

LAH097B “Bass Drummer”

LAH097C “Cymbalist”

LAH097D “Bell-Lyrist”

LAH097E “Bassoon Player”

LAH097F “Flautist”

LAH097G “Saxophonist”

LAH097H “Clarinettist”

LAH097I “Tuba Player”

LAH097J “French Horn Player”

LAH097K “Trombonist”

LAH097L “Trumpeter”

LAH097M “Drum Major”

LAH098 “Schellenbaum Carrier”

AVAILABILITY: Early October

B). “From Berlin To The Bulge!”
Every winter, for the last few years, we’ve introduced several sets of figures and fighting vehicles that can be used for “Battle of the Bulge” or Eastern Front displays and dioramas… This year is no exception…

BBG015 “Winter Schwimmwagen”
Not quite as ubiquitous as the Kubelwagen, the Schwimmwagen was still a fairly common sight on German battlefronts on the East and Western Fronts.
This new model has the top cover up and has been given a thin coat of whitewash over its original grey exterior. A well-wrapped up driver and a standing Feldgendarme complete the set.

BBG016 “The KONIGSTIGER or KING TIGER”(with Henschel Turret)
This is K&C’s third version of the almost 70 ton monster and the most accurate and detailed yet! Substantially larger than the first two versions the new “big cat” has the alternative “Henschel Turret” as opposed to the earlier “Porsche” one.
The superb, faded three-tone camouflaged and battle-worn King comes with 3 crew figures and its own special box. This is sure to be a much sought after piece and a great Christmas present!

BBG017 “King Tiger Tank Riders”
Three kneeling and sitting Panzer Grenadiers in a variety of Winter uniform… perfect for the KT or indeed any other suitable period German fighting vehicle.

BBG018 “Winter Scout”
A lone Panzer Grenadier, MP44 held ready advances to the front.

BBG019 “German Medics Set”
A Medic and a helpful “soldaten” carry a wounded comrade to the nearest aid station.

BBG020 “Waiting and Smoking”
A single standing Panzer Grenadier who can be used on top of a tank or standing by the side of the road watching events unfold.

AVAILABILITY: Mid October

C). “Additional Air Drop for ARNHEM”
When we last released all of our new “Market Garden” figures at the end of 2007 we knew we had to produce a tribute to the Polish Parachute Brigade who bravely fought alongside British 1st. Airborne at Arnhem. Here is a little taste of the first batch…

MG023 “Major General Sosabowski”
Portrayed by Gene Hackman in “A Bridge Too Far”, Sosabowski had grave doubts about the entire operation right from the very beginning. This superb character study shows the General in his paratrooper “Denison” smock, wearing his distinctive blue/gray Polish beret and carrying his Browning automatic pistol.

MG024 “Bren Gun Team”

MG025 “Polish Para Sniper”
This expert rifleman uses the standard Lee Enfield .303 with a special hunting scope.

MG026 “Firing Back!”
Using a captured German machine pistol this Polish Para is on the attack.

MG027 “Sitting Polish Para”
Taking a momentary respite from the fighting this paratrooper is still watchful… and ready, rifle in hand.

AVAILABILITY: Mid October

DISPATCHES
NOVEMBER 2007

Hi Guys,

Well, life is back to normal… or what passes for normal these days. I’ve been up to China more than a few times since the last “DISPATCHES”… visiting a new factory… meeting (several times) with our sculpting team and attending a major trade fair looking out for more ideas… fresh contacts and additional suppliers.

I’m always amazed at how some of our competitors who also manufacture in China seldom (if ever) visit their factories in the People’s Republic. Oh well I suppose that’s one of our major K&C advantages living and working in China itself. Personally I (and our team) love it!

Anyway down to business…

1A. NOVEMBER IS “ARNHEM” MONTH!
As virtually every dedicated K&C collector and dealer already knows our new “ARNHEM” series “Operation Market Garden” is being launched this month. As we previewed this big batch of “first releases” in last month’s “DISPATCHES” none of these sets of groups and individual pieces should come as a surprise. However, for the record, I strongly believe in this series and hope you will too. For any of you who are diorama makers these new pieces offer a wealth of poses that can suit many different stages of the battle. If you need any more inspiration get a copy of the DVD version of “A Bridge Too Far”…

So, here’s a look again at what is available this November…

MG001 “The Recce Jeep”

A two-man set sitting in a very well-armed jeep… a pair of twin Lewis guns plus a Bren gun and a whole host of fuel, ammo and supplies make this particular jeep set a “must-have”. An additional feature of all of these new “ARNHEM” sets is that each paratrooper is actually “named”. Manning this recce jeep are…

(driver) Lance Corporal Tony Neville and (gunner) Sergeant Jack Edwards.

MG003 “Walking Wounded”
Perhaps this 2-man set should be better titled “Carrying Wounded”… here Corporal Frank Townsend shoulders a seriously wounded Private Arthur Coates to an aid station.

MG004 “The Scout”
A crouching Lance Corporal Pete Robinson keeps a careful eye out for the enemy… Sten gun at the ready.

MG005 “Patrol Leader”
Private John Young silently signals a “halt” to his mates.

MG006 “Walking Rifleman”

Working the bolt of his Lee Enfield rifle Private Bill Luke moves forward.

MG007 “Pointing NCO”

Staff Sergeant Dave Hull gives direction to his men.

MG008 “Kneeling Rifleman”
Down on one knee Lance Corporal John Ross readies himself for action…

MG009 “Kneeling Firing Rifleman”
Private Eddie Davies takes careful aim with his .303 Lee Enfield.

MG010 “Walking Radioman”

Headset in place… Sten gun held ready… Lance Corporal Robert Thompson advances to the front.

MG011 “Lieutenant with Sten Gun”
Lieutenant Jack Bromley a para platoon leader moves forward.

MG012 “Standing Firing Sten Gun”

Private Dan Maclean fires a burst from his Sten.

MG013 “Lying Firing Bren Gun”

Using a couple of handy sand bags to steady his Bren, Private Keith Caldicott provides covering fire for his fellow paratroopers.

MG014 “Kneeling with Umbrella”
Inspired by a character in the movie “A Bridge Too Far”, Major Harry Pope nonchalantly observes the enemy positions.

MG015 “Advance to contact”
Three airborne men edge cautiously forward-- Glider Pilot Sergeant Chris Hopwood… Corporal Pete Foster with the Bren gun and… Private Eric Stanley clutching his Sten.

MG016 “Major General Roy Urquhart”

A superb standing study of the commander of the British 1st Airborne Division during the ill-fated Arnhem operation. In the movie, a fellow Scot, Sean Connery portrayed Roy Urquhart.

Availability: Early November

1B. Preview of December’s “Operation Market Garden”
A “sneak peek” at the rest of our “ARNHEM” figures.

MG002 “Airborne Jeep & Trailer”

MG017 “Para with Mortar Bombs”

MG018 “Manning The Piat”

MG019 “Airborne 6 pounder Anti Tank Gun Set”

Plus 3 more “single” Paras.

MG020 “Kneeling Firing Sten Gun”

MG021 “Lying Firing Sten Gun”

MG022 “Lying Firing Rifleman”

Availability: The additional Jeep Set MG002 will be ready by early December.

The rest of the sets by the middle of the month.

2A. “BATTLE OF THE BULGE”
To be fair November is not only about ARNHEM and the British Airborne traditionally (at least for the last couple of years) it’s the time when we release our winter Germans and GI’s for the “Ardennnes” campaign. This year is no exception…

BBG009 “The Raupen Schlepper”

This great looking little tracked transport has been on our “must-do” list for a while. Well, here it is… painted in terrific looking white washed camo finish the vehicle has a detachable rear canopy… full cab interior detail… driver… a little ammo trailer and a “winter” NCO pointing out directions. Great set! Great value! It will look excellent with the already released “winter” German figures.

Availability: Mid November

2B. And now for the YANKS!

We can’t and must not ignore our American Allies at winter time. Here’s the latest batch of GI’s toughing it out in the snow…

BBA019 “M5 High Speed Tractor”
This is one of K&C’s more unusual fighting vehicles… The M5 was used to haul heavy artillery such as the 155mm gun and the US Heavy Howitzer and other big loads.

Our model has a light dusting of snow and frost to give it that genuinely cold “winter feel”. It also has three full-bodied figures with it… a driver… a sitting vehicle commander manning the .50 cal. machine gun and a standing G1 giving directions.

Special Display Note: At the recent Chicago Show I picked up “21st Century’s” great looking 155mm gun and their heavy howitzer. Both artillery pieces are excellent quality and value and look great being “towed” behind our M5… Check out our photos!

BBA020 “Winter Command Group”
A nice little 2-man set comprising a kneeling radio operator and an officer kneeling firing carbine.

BBA021 “Winter Bazooka Team”

Another 2-man set… here the “bazooka” man takes careful aim at an approaching enemy tank. His number two loads one of their rockets.

BBA022 “Walking Wounded”
One GI supports his wounded buddy carrying both their M1 Garands at the same time.

BBA023 “Winter Sniper Team”
A lying prone NCO ‘spots’ for his sniper. The sniper is using the specially adapted ’03 Springfield with scope.

BBA024 “Real MP”
Unlike our earlier “winter MPs” (who where actually Germans in disguise BBA004) this guy is the real McCoy!

BBA025 “Moving Up The Line”

A 2-man, heavily laden .30 Cal. machine gun team are pushed forward by their officer. (3-man set)

Availability: Late November

3. “WHAT’S COMING IN DECEMBER?”

A) Well, the balance of our “Operation Market Garden” releases for a start… Some very important and valuable “add-ons” to November’s first batch of British Paras. So, one, two, three… jump! Jump back to paragraph 1B of this “DISPATCHES”.

B) “The British Expeditionary Force 1914”

After the initial success of our First World War Germans it was essential that we introduce a “fighting enemy” for them… and here they are… soldiers of the “King’s Own Scottish Borderers” — one of Scotland’s most famous Lowland regiments. The “KOSBies” as they were nicknamed formed part of the original B.E.F. sent over to France within days of war being declared. They took part in much of the fighting that attempted to delay and halt the massive German assault through Belgium and northern France in August 1914.

These new figures are in a wide range of useful “action” poses and, I believe, will be very popular. Being “Lowland Scots” they do not wear the traditional kilt (although some officers did wear tartan trews). The men are easily recognized by their distinctive Scottish “Glengarries” (with the colourful dicing band).

FW024 “Field Marshal Sir John French”

The original commander of the B.E.F at this early stage of the war

FW025 “KOSB Officer with Map”

An officer of the regiment attached to the General Staff… see the staff armband.

FW026 “Kneeling Firing Rifle”

FW027 “Standing Firing Rifle”

FW028 “Sergeant Standing Ready”

FW029 “Lying Loading Rifle”

FW030 “Lying Firing Rifle”

FW031 “Battlefield First Aid”

A kneeling Medical Orderly administers first aid to a seriously wounded “KOSBie”.

FW032 “Pointing Subaltem”

FW033 “Vickers Machine Gun Set”

At the beginning of the Great War each infantry battalion was assigned eight Vickers Machine Guns. Here, a seated gunner is ably assisted by his “loader”.

Availability: Early December

C) “BACK TO THE DESERT… ON A STRICTLY LIMITED BASIS!”

With the growing popularity of our Afrika Korps and 8th Army series we decided to make our Christmas“Strictly Limited” release something which could be a focal point for North African Campaign collectors…

AK039 (SL) “The Tunisian Tiger”

This is our 7th different Tiger in just over 10 years… and it’s the best yet!

This brand-new model is not only the best… it’s also the biggest and earliest type of Tiger K&C has ever produced. We have produced the “classic” early version of this armoured monster that fought in Tunisia towards the end of the Desert War.

This K&C model comes with a complete 5-man crew… 3 of which are full body. Our fighting vehicle is in the markings of 501 Panzer Abteilung as it would have appeared in February 1943.

Just 1,250 of this unique model are being produced. Order yours now!

Availability: Early December

D) “FINALLY A LITTLE STREET SCENE…”

HK165 “The New Chess Players Set”

A young girl and an old man contemplate a game of Chinese Chess. The detail on their blue and white ceramic stools is particularly fine!

Availability: Early December

4. BEING RETIRED…

As per usual there’s a few of our older pieces that are being retired to the “Toy Soldier Happy Hunting Ground”.

And here they are….

AMERICAN REVOLUTION
These are “Woodland Warriors” and would go very well with other French/Indian War figures and scenarios.

BR042 “Advancing Indian with Rifle”

BR043 “Indian Ready with Rifle”

BR044 “Kneeling Indian with Rifle”

BR045 “Indian Firing Bow”

BR046 “Indian Firing Rifle”

BR047 “Take No Prisoners!”

D. DAY ‘44

Two of our beach-scene US Rangers…

DD047 “On The Beach” set A

DD048 “On The Beach” set B

“Streets of Old Hong Kong”
One of our nicest and cutest Chinese buildings.

HK074 “The Chinese Pagoda”

NAPOLEONICS

And here’s a few assorted Napoleonic era soldiers moving out…

NA025 “Mounted Chasseur a Cheval”

NA026 “Mounted Napoleon & Mameluke Servant”

NA037 “Black Watch Sergeant w/Pike”

NA038 “Black Watch Officer”

And finally WOLRD WAR TWO GERMANS

WS066 “Anti Tank Gun Set”

And that ladies and gentlemen… boys and girls is… that! As usual very best wishes!

DISPATCHES

AUGUST 2008

AUGUST is upon us and for me the holidays are over… 12 days in France attending a friend’s wedding and visiting my favourite city… Paris! Ah such is life… Anyways enough of quaffing fine French wines and scoffing down delicious Foie Gras and back to Toy Soldiers…

1. AVAILABLE IN AUGUST…

a) “Vive La Garde! Vive L’Empereur!”

Well, they’re here and ready for inspection. 7 great new action figures of The Emperor’s favourites “Les Grognards”—“The Grumblers”. Resplendent in their tall bearskins and handsome blue tunics the “Old Guard” always take the high ground in any serious Napoleonic collection…

NA151 “Guard Performing Bayonet Drill”
A Guard NCO demonstrating the correct bayonet defense position.

Note the white gloves.

NA152 “Guard at Attention”
Standing watch in the “classic” position.

NA153 “Kneeling Firing”

NA154 “Standing Firing”

NA155 “Standing To Repel”

NA156 “Loading Rifle”

NA157 “Marching with Rifle”

All of these new pieces are perfect add-ons for collectors who like to buy “multiples” to enhance their displays.

b) “Long Live The Emperor!”

NA158(SL) “Napoleon & His Generals”… Strictly Limited!

Here is the great man himself pondering the situation before him… By his side, three of his most trusted commanders… the bespectacled Marshal Louis-Nicolas DAVOUT… General DORSENNE resplendent in his Imperial Guard uniform and… General of Cuirassiers Jean-Joseph Comte d’ HAUTPOUL. Delivering dispatches is a standing, saluting Aide de Camps. Completing this scene are a camp table, chair and basket of maps and the Emperor’s Tent forming a backdrop.

Just 999 of this superb scene are being released and we feel it will be eagerly sought by Napoleonic collectors around the world.

AVAILABILITY: Early August

c) “FIELDS OF BATTLE”

This series has been a pleasant surprise for K&C… originally we thought it would only sell in Europe but its success elsewhere has shown that both dealers and collectors like to seeing something different and unique in their toy soldiers and military miniatures…

FoB042 “Bedford OYD Truck”
These Bedford General Service Trucks were produced in their thousands from 1939-1945 and they “soldiered-on” in the British Forces right up until the early sixties.

Our model is in early-war markings of the British 3rd. Infantry Division. Vehicle includes driver figure.

FoB043 “Polizei ADGZ Armoured Car”
This is one of the most unusual German armoured cars of the Early-War period. Originally built in Austria these were used on SS Police duties in the Polish campaign. Some were also used in France and most ended up on anti Partisan duties on the Eastern Front later.

This 8-wheeled monster comes with no crew figures but is still a great looking model.

FoB044 “Polizei in Action”
Apart from the “Feldgendarmes”—the famous “Chained Dogs”, other civilian police either volunteered or were drafted into special Field Police units as backup. This little 3-man set works well with the previous armoured car or on its own.

“THE NAVY’S HERE!”

FoB046 “Naval Officer Directing”

To help restore order and organize evacuation on the beaches of Dunkirk Royal Naval Landing Parties were put ashore. This officer, with pistol drawn, points the way.

FoB047 “Sailor at Attention”
This Matelot fully armed is part of the Landing Party… note his older 1914-1918 web equipment.

FoB048 “Communications”
Another sailor, this time with “shore-to-ship” radio set and rifle.

FoB049 “Naval Lewis Gunner”
A veteran “old-salt” complete with light machine gun.

FoB050 “Sailor Advancing”
One more Matelot with Lee Enfield rifle at the high port position.

FoB051 “Military Police Sergeant”
This standing MP shouting orders amidst the chaos.

FoB052 “RAF Sergeant”
Standing, saluting RAF NCO complete with kitbag and backpack awaits evacuation.

FoB053 “Field Marshal Lord Gort”
Commander-in-Chief, British Expeditionary Force was ordered by Churchill to return to London. Here he stands… ready to go.

AVAILABILITY: Mid August

2. COMING IN SEPTEMBER…

Two more different series are releasing new additions this month… Normandy 44’s Waffen SS and… our Crusaders & Saracens range. Here’s what’s coming up….

a) “Somewhere in Normandy…”

DISPATCHES
JULY 2008
WELCOME TO JULY… and thank goodness June is over! Here in Hong Kong we’ve had a Typhoon and days and weeks of Monsoon—like rains. I’m not saying it’s been heavy but I’ve seen a few people building Arks.
Anyway enough of our weather problems let’s cheer ourselves up with a few new releases…

1. AVAILABLE IN JULY…
a) “ICE COLD IN ALEX”
As promised in June’s “DISPATCHES” here is the four new 8th. Army releases—at long last!

EA027 “The Desert Austin K2 Ambulance”
This is a model I personally have longed to do for many, many years… The Austin K2 Ambulance.
Back in the late 1950’s a great British War movie called “Ice Cold In Alex” came out. I saw it as a kid and loved it. It tells the story of a British Ambulance and its crew trying to escape an embattled Tobruk and cross the desert to Alexandria in Egypt. The film covers lots of their trials and tribulations on the journey… one of which is that there is a German spy among them!!!
Anyway it’s a great flick… see it on late night telly or failing that… buy the bloody ambulance!
This very, very British looking truck and comes with a driver looking out for any land-mines.

EA028 “Stretcher Party”
Two Royal Army Medical Corps stretcher bearers carry a wounded Tommy out of the battle and, hopefully, towards the ambulance… the perfect add-on to EA027.

EA029 “The Crusader Tank”
Many, many 8th. Army Collectors have been requesting additional armour for the 8th Army sets… Well, here it is… “The Crusader”. Up until the arrival of the American Shermans and Grants this was the best and fastest tank the British Armoured Regiments had. It could be unreliable but its speed often got it out of difficult situations.
Our model is in typical 2 colour desert camo and in the markings of the 3rd. Hussars of the famous 7th Armoured Division “The Desert Rats”. Each tank comes with a commander and a seated British Infantryman.

EA030 “8th Army Tank Riders”
Another great add-on! Three Scottish Infantrymen in a range of poses that can fit on the Crusader or stand off the vehicle on the ground as you prefer.

AVAILABILITY: Mid July

b) From the desert to Normandy… “Moving Up To The Front”
Our newest German forces focus on regular Wehrmacht troops rather than Waffen SS this time. These 5 new sets are perfect for any Normandy display or diorama and fill in some important gaps in any WW2 K&C collection.

WS116 “Officer Pointing”
Many civilian police officers were conscripted (some volunteered) to serve in “Field Police” units attached to the army in support of the Army’s own “Feldgendarmerie”. This one is giving directions.

WS117 “Get Ready!”
As one Wehrmacht Panzer Grenadier watches the advance of the enemy another prepares to pull the pin on his “potato masher” grenade.

WS118 “Moving Forward”
A three-man rifle section (including a Schmeisser-toting NCO) stealthily move closer to the enemy.

WS119 “On the Road”
In the weeks and months following D. Day German vehicles found it increasingly difficult to move undetected along French roads. Infantry moved forwards (and backwards) by the traditional method… on foot. An NCO leads two of his riflemen to the front carrying extra ammo and weapons.

WS120 “Walking Machine Gun Team”
This two-man set is a “companion piece” to WS119.

AVAILABILITY: Early July

c) The Imperial Guard… Chinese-Style
Two sets of richly detailed… and colourful soldiers of the Emperor.

IC033 “Chinese General Staff Set”
A superb seated figure of a Chinese General of the Imperial Household Guard… Next to him a small table with his helmet… leaning over to advise him is one of his officers. Standing protectively over his General is the personal bodyguard carrying the richly decorated umbrella… Fantastic detail and a welcome addition.

IC034 “Chinese Armourer Set”
Standing at the forge this Armourer is “beating-out” a new sword next to him his assistant is working the bellows helping to “heat-up” the forge. Every Army should have its Armourer…

AVAILABILITY: Mid July

2. COMING IN AUGUST…
Two great “add-ons” to two popular series… and very different. First, for our Napoleonic-era enthusiasts…

a) “VIVE LA GARDE!”
(“Long Live The Guard!”)
It’s been far too long since we added on to Napoleon’s favourites—the men of the “Old” Guard… So, here they are…

NA151 “Guard Performing Bayonet Drill”
A Guard NCO demonstrating the correct bayonet defense position.
Note the white gloves.

NA152 “Guard at Attention”
Standing watch in the “classic” position.

NA153 “Kneeling Firing”

NA154 “Standing Firing”

NA155 “Standing To Repel”

NA156 “Loading Rifle”

NA157 “Marching with Rifle”

All of these new pieces are perfect add-ons for collectors who like to buy “multiples” to enhance their displays.

And now for a “wee surprise”…

b) NA158(SL) “Napoleon & His Generals”… Strictly Limited!
Place your order now!

AVAILABILITY: Early August

c) From the glory days of Bonaparte we move forward more than a century to the dark days of 1940 and the Battle of France…

“FIELDS OF BATTLE”

This is one of the more unusual German armoured cars of the Early-War period.

FoB046 “Naval Officer with Pistol”
To help restore order and organize evacuation on the beaches of Dunkirk Royal Naval Landing Parties were put ashore. This officer, with pistol drawn, points the way.

FoB047 “Sailor at Attention”
This Matelot fully armed is part of the Landing Party… note his older 1914-1918 web equipment.

FoB048 “Communications”
Another sailor, this time with “shore-to-ship” radio set and rifle.

FoB049 “Sailor with Lewis Gun”
A veteran “old-salt” complete with light machine gun.

FoB050 “Marching Sailor”
One more Matelot with Lee Enfield rifle at the high port position.

FoB051 “Military Police Sergeant”
This standing MP shouting orders amidst the chaos.

FoB052 “RAF Sergeant”
Standing, saluting RAF NCO complete with kitbag and backpack awaits evacuation.

FoB053 “Field Marshal Lord Gort”
Commander-in-Chief, British Expeditionary Force was ordered by Churchill to return to London. Here he stands… ready to go.

AVAILABILITY: Mid August

3. BEING RETIRED IN JULY…
Yet more retirals for you to look at… so here goes…

a) AFRIKA KORPS
AK022 “The Mortar Set”
AK028 “Questioning The Prisoner”

b) BARBARIANS
BAR005 “Running Warrior with Shield and Spear”
BAR009 “Stepping Warrior with Sword and Shield”

c) ANCIENT ROME
RO018-RE “Legion Mascot”
RO026-RE “Roman Casualty”
RO028-RE “Kneeling w/Spear”
RO029-RE “Kneeling w/Sword”
RO030-RE “Defending w/Sword”
RO031-RE “Defending w/Shield”
RO033-RE “Stabbing w/Sword”
RO034-RE “Advancing w/Sword”

d) NORMANDY’44
WS088 “Road Block”

And that’s that… at least for another month. Once again many thanks for your continued and loyal approach. So, until next month… Best personal wishes!

BATTLE ON SNOWSHOES

The Ranger's having been forced to retreat and reform, managed to hold the numerically superior enemy force for over an hour and a half.

As darkness began to fall, the French and Indian force pressed the attack to finish the British off for good. Rogers had no choice but to order a general retreat.

Fortunately some of the wounded had already been carried to a place where the Rangers had earlier left their sleds. The sleds were especially useful for evacuation of the wounded on the long journey home.

A messenger would have been sent back to Fort Edward, to request a relief force be sent to assist in bringing back the wounded and help cover the retreat from any pursuing French and Indians.

Please check this link (fictional account) to read more about the retreat from the Battle On Snowshoes.

THE RAID ON ST. FRANCIS

Jesuit missionaries from France in the 17th Century first observed the Huron Indians playing a game. They called it "La Crosse" because the Natives ' sticks resembled the Crosier carried by French Bishops as a symbol of office.

Although the Europeans initially saw the game as savage, they soon began to enjoy watching it and often placed bets among themselves on the winner of a match.

In 1763, Fort Michilimackinac, which the French had relinquished in
1761 to the British following their loss in the French and Indian War, became the site of a dramatic incident involving the sport of Lacrosse.

On June 2nd as part of the larger movement known as Pontiac's Rebellion, a group of Qjibwe Indians staged a game of Lacrosse outside the fort as a ruse to gain entrance. Whilst the British became absorbed in the game, a party of Indians slipped past the distracted sentries and captured the fort.

After gaining entrance to the fort, they killed most of the British inhabitants and held the fort for a year before the British retook it with the promise of more and better gifts to the native inhabitants of the area.

With the recent release of the Stockade Sets it therefore only seemed appropriate to release a set of Woodland Indians playing Lacrosse!

BATTLE ON THE MONONGAHELA 1755

It was fairly common for most of the provincial troops during this period to wear civilian or hunting shirts on campaign. The typical campaign dress consisted of a hunting shirt, which was usually left in its natural colour, and the legs were protected against the woodland brush by woolen cloth leggings, which were simular in style to those worn by the native Indians.
The traditional tri-corn hat could have had its front two sides let down to shade the eyes.

SAMUEL DE CHAMPLAIN (1567-1635)

"The father of New France", Samuel De Champlain was a respected and talented
navigator and cartographer. His mapping of the St. Lawrence River and
exploration of the Atlantic coast was integral in opening North America to
French trade, especially the fur trade.

In the summer of 1608 Champlain landed at the "Point of Quebec" and set
about fortifying the area. This was to become the city of Quebec. He became
the founder of the city that would become the cradle of French America.

To commemorate the 400th anniversary of the founding of Quebec City, this
month sees the release of a special figure to celebrate the anniversary.

Of course it is a Limited Edition of 400.

BATTLE ON SNOWSHOES

The enemy party that Roger's Rangers had initially fired upon, turned out to
be just the advance guard of over 200 additional French and Indians. The
Battle on Snowshoes had only just begun.

The Rangers, in turn were surprised, and had to retreat and reform. They
succeeded in twice driving back the reinforced enemy party, but had lost
both the initiative and their superiority of numbers.

After losing many men, over an hour and a half of combat, Rogers saw that
further resistance was useless, and ordered a general retreat. However
Rogers' right flank under the command of Lieutenant William Phillips, had
become completely surrounded by a large party of Indians. Phillips had
decided to surrender after the enemy had assured him and his men that they
would be given "good quarters".

Shortly afterwards, in Rogers' own words, Phillips' and his men were "
inhumanly tied up to trees, and hewn to pieces, in a most barbarous and
shocking manner."

A French prisoner was to publish in "The Boston News-Letter" in 1758,

"above 30 of the English... were killed and cut to pieces after they had
capitulated, the Indians being enraged at finding a number of scalps in an
officer's pocket "

THE BATTLE OF CHIPPEWA July 5th 1814

Each Regiment in the US army was furnished with a "stand" of colours,
consisting of a National Standard and a Regimental colour.

The first command sets for The Battle of Chippawa series will have the
National and Regimental Standards of the Eleventh Regiment of U.S. Infantry.

The National Colours were a blue silk background with the national emblem of
a bald eagle device .

The Infantry and artillery Regimental colours, which were also called
"battalion colours" were made of yellow silk, (whilst those of the rifle
regiments had a green silk background.)

They were slightly smaller than the National colours, and bore the
Regimental designation in a blue gilt-edged scroll in the centre.

Conte News 05/2008
NewsMay 6, 2008

Dear Conte Collector,

Thanks for your help in clearing some much needed space in the warehouse---and for helping us start the painful process of relocating to a new warehouse. We'd rather pass savings on to you than waste the $$$ on shipping, trucking and moving expenses.

We are discontinuing most of our recent blow-out specials as we reassess what items we should thin out further before making a move. Several range or series specific specials will be posted when the current specials run out this Friday and will be discussed in a second email blast later this week.

Managing incoming shipments as well our move is going to make things interesting for a few months but thanks to the sale I think we now have 'room to breathe' and move things around as needed. We are trying to juggle new sets, restocks of sold out sets and the relocation along with a massive influx of plastic Spartans which will take up enormous amounts of space.

As the factory is catching up on the Roman ships and Medieval Cogs, we are at last beginning to receive restocks of sold out sets.

I'll try to answer as many questions as I can hereinafter:

Arriving Items (May)

---100 Roman War Galleys with painted crews have shipped from the factory and are expected to arrive early & mid May. The office tells me that 65 of these have already been preordered so please let us know if you need any.

These are extremely time consumptive to produce due to the 58 painted figures plus the enormous ship, and as you know, they distract the factory from getting other sets produced.....Each of these beauties takes up the rough equivalent of 25 normal 3 figure sets in terms of painting time.

My guess is that we will NOT receive additional ships until September or later as I want backorders for ACW, Rangers/Indians and sold out Spartans sets refilled as well as adequate quantities of our Zulu War range produced. If you want one of the Roman Galleys guaranteed in 2008, I advise you to order it now.

---We also currently have a handful of the Roman ships with UNpainted crew available. Like the version with painted crew, once these are gone my guess is early to late Fall before we have more. Only 100 of these signed sets are being made.

I also fear we will have price increases for all future shipments (after these deliveries) due to the tremendous 'reshuffling' going on all over China. This is not to scare you but is an unfortunate fact.

---Medieval Cog----We are receiving a restock of this warship from the Middle Ages in the same shipment as the Roman Galleys. Again, considerable numbers have been preordered & we are unlikely to receive any additional before late 2008 so if you think you will need any please order now.

The helmsmen for the ship are about to be sent to the factory for production and should be available this Fall along with all sorts of other new Medieval items.

---Valhalla Awaits ---

--Two new sets VA021 I Hear Ya Knockin..(battering ram & crew) and VA027 Magnus (mounted Viking leader) have shipped. Preorders now are being accepted.

--Restocks of the sold out sets VA001 When The Raven Flies!, VA003 Thunderbolt! (catapult set) VA004 (catapult add-on), VA005 You Can Run, VA008 A Shopping We Will Go, VA009 A Woman's Point Of View, VA013 The Hooded Avenger, VA015 Wontcha Let Me Take You On A Sea Cruise & VA020 Bring It On! have also shipped . When these arrive we should have all twenty of the first VA sets back in stock. I do not expect additional shipments of these until late 2008 & unfortunately future shipments are likely to have price increases as the cost of pewter has almost doubled.

--Restocks of Various Medieval Sets---

After years (in some cases) of being out of stock/backordered I am pleased to tell you that the following eight Viking/Saxon or Norman sets have been shipped. Several of these were our basic 'bread & butter' sets of fighting poses. All will be perfect to be used with our battering ram, siege tower and castle....All will be discontinued/retired after this shipment sells out......as we just cannot keep over 400 hundred different sets in stock.......if you've been waiting for these, please order now.

I'll be sending pictures of the castle soon....

---VIK016 Odin Must Have Sired Him
---WAL015 Normans Charging
---WAL016 Normans Defending
---WAL017 Vikings Attacking
---WAL018 Vikings Charging
---VIK011 Caped Crusaders(Normans in various fighting poses)
---CCC14 Norman Standard Bearer
---CCC21 The Saxon Shield Wall

Set CCC21 has been particularly in demand as folks apparently want bunches of these to line up together. I strongly urge you to order this one quickly as a sellout might occur in a hurry....

Plastic SPARTANS--The Wait Is Almost Over!

The production run started on these last week! A lengthy discussion of this product has been put up on our site and your attention is kindly directed there for details. In brief summary: Nine different blistercards, 23 poses total, all moveable/poseable in various ways....Arrival likely June. A separate email will go out with pictures and detailing these exciting sets. Gonna take up a ton of room when containers arrive. Prereservations being taken now. At first we will only sell and pack orders for all 9 cards sold at one time, in order for us to pack & ship as many orders as we can....

I expect these to be our best selling and most popular plastic sets to date due to the incredible sculpting and molding and the poseability and ability to interchange heads/arms/weapons.......plus EVERY collector needs 300 of them?? They will only be available in Spartan blood red scarlet to begin with. A special will be made available to the first several hundred to order. Watch the website or our future email blast for details.

Thank you as always!

Hail Our Fellow Collectors!

DISPATCHES
MAY 2008

Welcome to the “Merry Month of May” and this month’s “DISPATCHES”… As usual a few surprises and, I hope, pleasant ones at that!

So, here goes…

1. AVAILABLE THIS MONTH OF MAY

a) “Remember The Alamo!”

These latest additions add extra “depth” and detail to this series plus bring in a couple of famous personalities…

RTA035 “General Manuel Castrillon”

One of Santa Anna’s generals… this mounted figure observes the action through his telescope.

RTA036 “Mexican Soldier with Ladder”
Running forward this “soldado” carries his own ladder.

RTA037 “Wounded Mexican”

This poor soldier has been brought to his knees either by grape-shot or a well-aimed musket ball.

RTA038 “Fighting Duo #1 — James McGee, Ireland”

The first of these dueling doubles… the enemy are already over the wall and it’s a fight to the death!

RTA039 “Naval Cannon & Musket Set — William Wells, GA & George W. Tumlinson, MO”

Many of the artillery pieces used in the Alamo were “dismounted” ship’s cannon… this set comes with two gunners (one wounded) and an extra Musket, satchel and powder horn.

RTA040 “Swinging Rifle — James Buchanan, AL”

Either out of ammunition or no time to reload this Alamo defender uses his weapon as a club.

RTA041 “Fighting Duo #2 — Andrew Kent, KY”
The second of our “fight to the death” doubles…

RTA042 “Mrs. Dickinson & Daughter”

Santa Anna spared no male survivors of the battle however he did release, unharmed, several females and children. Susanna Dickinson and her small daughter are probably the most famous.

AVAILABILITY: MID MAY

b) “Classic Sherman Leads The Way”

Among the great new WW2 releases this month is K&C’s “Classic Sherman”. This is the 9th K&C Version of this great American Tank and the backbone of the Allied Armies armoured forces during WW2.

DD093 “The Classic Sherman”

This welded hull, M4 Sherman is relatively free of battlefield clutter although it does have TWO different loads of extra supplies that can be placed on or off the vehicle as the collector chooses. This fighting vehicle also comes with two crew figures (a head ‘n’ shoulders driver and a half body commander) and mounts the standard early/mid war 75 mm gun.

AVAILABILITY: MID MAY

DD088 “GI Tank Crew”

3 U.S. tankers that go great with our new “Classic” Sherman or any of our other U.S. vehicles. One standing sergeant, one kneeling NCO and one lying mechanic. Very useful!

AVAILABILITY: LATE MAY

c) “The Big Red One”

Activated first in 1917 the 1st Infantry Division has seen continues action ever since… right up to the present in Iraq.

Our boys (comprising five two-man sets) are in Normandy in June and July 1944 fighting their way up from the beach, into the bocage and beyond.

DD095 “The Rescue”

One GI pulls his wounded buddy to safety.

DD096 “Over There!”

A veteran NCO points out an enemy position to one of the new guys in the platoon.

DD097 “Two-Man Patrol”

A sergeant with “Tommy Gun” leads a rifleman cautiously forward… the enemy are nearby.

DD098 “Alive & Dead”

A crouching rifleman approaches a dead Waffen SS trooper.

DD099 “I Need More Ammo!”

While his kneeling officer provides covering fire… a BAR gunner shouts out for extra ammunition.

SPECIAL NOTE: All of these new figures can work together or separately to form some very exciting display possibilities.

AVAILABILITY: LATE MAY

d) “And Now For A Little Opposition”

Of all the artillery pieces produced by the Axis or the Allies during WW2 the ’88 is justly the most famous (or infamous).

First designed in the latter stages of WW1 this gun was to be originally operated in the Anti-Aircraft role.

However early successes in Poland and the invasion of France showed that it was equally useful in the anti tank mode. In fact the ’88 won its fame and laurels destroying enemy armour as opposed to enemy aircraft.

This latest K&C version… our 5th is one of the most different…

WS103 “The Flak 18 (sf1.) aufZugkraftwagen”.

This 12-ton monster mounted the 88 on an armoured half track prime mover body. Our model, one of K&C’s biggest, comes with a crew of 5 Wehrmacht artillerymen and is 3-tone camouflaged in the style of typical mid to late war European Theatre of Operations and perfect for a Normandy style scenario.

IMPORTANT: Planned Production Number for this item is just 750 models. Order Now!

AVAILABILITY: LATE MAY

e) “Lighting The Streets”

HK167 “Street Lantern Set”

A giant decorative street lantern being painted by two skilled craftsmen.

AVAILABILITY: LATE MAY

2. COMING IN JUNE…

a) DESERT TRANSPORT FOR THE DESERT FOX

AK046(SL) “Rommel’s Desert Horch”

A couple of years back K&C released Rommel’s famous half track Command Vehicle “GREIF” as a “Strictly Limited”. Just 750 of this special piece were made and they were eagerly snapped up within hours of the launch. Sadly more than a few dealers and collectors were disappointed when they could not obtain theirs or get enough to satisfy the demand.

Since then our North African series (both Afrika Korps and 8th Army) have surged in popularity and we feel the time is right to produce another of the “Desert Fox’s” favourite transport vehicles… in this case one of his HORCH staff cars.

Our all-new set shows a specially adapted vehicle with radio communications, a signal officer, a bodyguard and driver plus a standing figure of Erwin Rommel himself. Clad in his famous leather greatcoat this figure can be placed inside or outside the vehicle as the collector chooses.

All other seated figures are fixed in their positions.

QUANTITY: JUST 1,250 of this unique set are being produced.

PACKAGING: Each set comes in its own specially designed box with an explanatory leaflet.

AVAILABILITY: EARLY JUNE

b) “The Union Forever”

From the dry desert sands of North Africa to the lush, green fields of Pennsylvania… and the early months of the Civil War.

King & Country’s latest additions to their recently revived American Civil War soldiers are our first Federal release. In this case, we’ve chosen the 83rd. Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment.

At the beginning of the war the Union Army was short of everything… except men! Weapons… Officers… Supplies and… Uniforms. To help remedy this situation 10,000 sets of complete uniforms were bought from France. Among them a large proportion of French Chasseur Infantry uniforms.

As was the case in the first two years of the War military dress and fashion on both sides of the divide varied from “the weird to the wonderful”… Our Pennsylvanian “Chasseurs” were no exception!

We are releasing 14 individual pieces that together or separately, in large or small formations make for an exciting and colourful display.

CW026 “Union Officer w/ Binos”

CW027 “Union Chasseur Standing w/ Rifle”

CW028 “Union Kneeling Firing Rifleman”

CW029 “Union Standing Firing Rifleman”

CW030 “Union Kneeling Ready”

CW031 “Union Standing Ready”

CW032 “Union Kneeling Loading”

CW033 “Union Standing Loading”

CW034 “Union Standing Ramrod”

CW035 “Union Advancing”

CW036 “Union Sergeant w/ Flag”

CW037 “Union Bugler”

CW038 “Union Mounted Officer”

CW039 “Thirsty Work”

AVAILABILITY: MID JUNE

c) “Wehrmact To The Front”

Some Collectors complain that we produce too many “Waffen SS” in action and not enough regular Wehrmacht.

Well, these new pieces should help fix that…

WS116 “Officer Pointing”

A conscripted Police Officer giving directions

SPECIAL NOTE: These are just the first of many new “Wehrmacht in Action” sets K&C will be releasing… look out for more.

AVAILABILITY: LATE JUNE / EARLY JULY
